Weapons Charges (Concealed Carry)

Legal Defense and Legislative Advocacy for Asserting Gun Ownership Rights

The gun ownership laws in Illinois are currently among the most restrictive in the entire country. Forty-eight other states allow for some form of concealed carry in public of a validly registered firearm. But Illinois does not, and numerous Illinois counties and municipalities have added their own restrictions on gun ownership.

I am Jerald Novak, of Jerald Novak and Associates. At my firm, we believe this situation has to change. If you are looking for strong legal defense on weapons charges, we can help. From our office in Grayslake, Illinois, we serve criminal defense clients throughout Will County, Lake County, DuPage County and northern Cook County.

Protecting Gun Ownership Rights

In the last few years, the law regarding gun ownership has been in a state of flux; one might even say it’s been a moving target. Two years ago, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down a ban on gun ownership in the District of Columbia, finding that the ban violated the Second Amendment. Recently the U.S. Supreme Court struck down a ban on gun ownership in the District of Columbia and Chicago, finding that the ban violated the Second Amendment following the Supreme Court’s ruling, several Illinois communities repealed similar bans. However, concealed carry is still not authorized in Illinois.

Our law firm believes that law-abiding citizens have participated in proper training should be allowed to carry concealed weapons. Those citizens should have the right to keep and bear arms as the second amendment of the US Constitution allows. We believe that those citizens should not have interference from overly restrictive gun possession and registration laws. If you have a question, or are facing a legal issue regarding proper use of a FOID (firearm owner identification card) to purchase a weapon, or the registration of a validly acquired weapon, we can help.

We are also committed to assisting with legislative advocacy intended to make gun possession laws in Illinois more open. We are prepared to partner with groups like the Illinois Rife Association and the National Rifle Association to make this happen, in a way consistent with the Supreme Court’s rulings on the Second Amendment.
